What the parents say

A wonderful nursery, such an amazing start to a child's learning. A very special place.
Pip, 2014

I could not imagine a more nurturing and loving nursery school. At Zebedee the focus is on the things that matter, kindness respect tolerance and friendship. When these things are in place children are able to become the best version of themselves and learning and knowledge flourishes.
Andrea, 2014

Zebedee has a wonderful sense of community. The staff really care about each child and there is a great relationship between the nursery and the parents so you feel totally involved.
The emotional development of the child is valued just as much as the academic development. The children at Zebedee have lots of fun and always leave each day smiling with their arms full of their art work, crafts they've made or treats they have baked.
My daughter who left Zebedee last year still misses it and often wants to accompany her younger sister there, especially on dress up days.
Zebedee is a very special place. Thank you to Zebedee for nourishing our children emotionally, spiritually and intellectually.
Sarah, 2014

Zebedee provides a really fun and stimulating environment for our children. I'm always so overwhelmed by the amount of creative work they produce and the smiles on the children's faces at the school gates. My daughter always looks forward to going to school which is a great testament to the loving care, support and encouragement that she is given.Charlotte, 2014

Zebedee is completely and utterly unique. The children have so many wonderful and exciting experiences and opportunities for learning in an environment where they feel safe and encouraged. The teachers are dedicated and nurturing and my three very different children have all been incredibly happy there.. as have I!
Ali, 2014

All four of my children have gone to Zebedee. It is the most fantastic foundation any child could wish for. It sets them up for a confident start at primary school. It is overflowing with genuine love and support for our children, and I have watched each of them grow in self confidence and their own personalities emerge in a safe, loving and nurturing environment. I couldn't rate it more highly and we have committed not to leave Fulham until all four children are through. It's that good!

The headmistress is steeped in experience, common sense and a genuine heart for children and an understanding of how to inspire children's minds.

The children are taught the values of the Christian faith and there is love and respect for each child and staff member alike. A real gift in grounding a child in Christian principles.
Audrey, 2014

Zebedee provided a loving and fun place to learn, be creative and make wonderful friendships. I was delighted with how well prepared both my children were for starting reception. I look forward to my next child starting next year!
Jenn, 2014

We are so pleased with Zebedee - not only how happy the children are and how much they learn, but there is a great emphasis on character development too. We were thrilled when Hugo came home with a certificate for 'sharing friends!

Letterland Tips
Letterland is a very creative teaching method for learning the alphabet with small children. Each sound has its own picture that fits into the shape of the letter. When leaning the phonic sounds it is important the children know that the character is the picture and the sound is the shape of the letter. Annie Apple says a, they should not point to the a and say Annie Apple. If this is taught well we have found the children are able to learn phonic sounds very quickly and with a lot of fun!

Personal, social, emotional and spiritual development
We encourage independence, confidence and self-respect. Children work together in a loving and caring environment. We teach the children to value each other and we expect the children to treat each other with respect and sensitivity.

We have a strong moral thread due to our Christian foundation and we teach the difference between right and wrong, basing our teaching on the choices we have to make.

The children are taught about creation and all aspects of the natural world; they are encouraged to use their imagination, to identify feelings such as love, wonder, forgiveness and sorrow, and to show concern for the environment.

Children are taught to listen and talk about everyday situations. We read stories, rhymes and poems, sing songs and involve the children in role play.

  Physical Development
Children are encouraged to move around with control and co-ordination. We have use of a garden outside St Dionis Church, (the children are taken there safely between two ropes), we have dancing one day a week and a twice-weekly physical activity programme as well. This includes exercises such as throwing, balancing and catching.

We encourage hand-eye co-ordination, and we give opportunities for pencil control practice from 2 years old, teaching them how to hold a pencil correctly through activities such as drawing, colouring, tracing and stencils.

Children will be writing their names and copying sentences when they leave, as well as having a go at creating their own writing, e.g. menus, lists etc.
We introduce children to the phonetic alphabet using letterland. We work systematically through the alphabet focusing on a 'letter of the week'. The children have the opportunity to write, word build and read once they are ready. They have book bags which are taken home with relevant work to do at home.

We promote the learning of shapes, colours, size and quantity. The children are taught to sort, match and count, and recognise and use numbers at least up to 10. Most will know 1-20 by the end of their time with us. We start addition and subtraction; we use number games and rhymes to reinforce learning.

  Understanding the world
Children learn about where they live and their environment. We have a Topic Table with a different topic each week and children are encouraged to bring in relevant items from home. The topics are very varied and include different countries, basic scientific concepts and some history; we have school trips and visits coordinating with the topics. We also introduce simple technology by playing with magnets, mirrors, scales, calculators etc. There is an optional computer course that runs each term.

  Expressive Art and Design
We put a strong emphasis on creative activities. The children have an art session every day, and they are able to do free art activities each day as well. We have facilities for a lot of creative play i.e. sand, water, playdough, rice, cold water paste, model-making. We have a home corner with a large range of equipment. There is a music class one day a week.

Record Keeping
A personal folder (Learning Journey) is kept on each child as they enter the school. Their teacher writes a short report on the 7 areas of development once a term. We keep pieces of work and exercises that show progress. These are kept at school and parents can ask to see these reports at any time, and a copy of the termly report is given to every parent at the end of term.

There are always teachers around to discuss any problems. We have a
great emphasis on family and want to work with parents as much as we can. We would hope parents can approach us at any time; the head teacher and deputy are available for appointments.

We have shared use of a large bright church hall where we are able to display art work, mobiles etc. We have a wide selection of educational, constructive, creative, and imaginative play equipment.

We have policies on health and safety, equal opportunities, special needs, discipline and complaints procedures, which may be looked at on request. An inspection report is also available.
